POSITION/TITLE: Operational Support Buyer / Planner

REPORTS TO: Purchasing Supervisor

LOCATION: Jacksonville 32254

STATUS: Direct Hire, Non Exempt

Primary Function

The Operational Support Buyer / Planner is responsible for the planning, scheduling, purchasing and supplier management necessary for the fabrication and procurement of finished goods, materials, supplies and services to support the Warehousing and Production operations. This position must ensure that item forecasts are entered and updated both at the master and component levels; production orders are created, released, issued to the shop floor and closed per determined procedures; component items are purchased and available in support of production forecasts and orders; inventory levels are reviewed and maintained for optimum availability while minimizing Excess and Obsolete inventory according to company guidelines. This position is also responsible for reviewing, ordering and maintaining proper levels of supplies and materials to support the shipping and manufacturing processes. This position is a member of the Purchasing Team and reports to the Purchasing Supervisor.


  • Develop a true understanding of internal and external variables impacting the planning and purchasing of master and component levels of finished goods and component items.

  • Forecast, monitor, understand and report on requirements for fabricated products by working with the Sales team, the Customer Service Team and the Operations Management Team to gather and interpret demand trend data.

  • Evaluate and understand the fabrication processes, capabilities and capacities to facilitate improvements in ordering and delivery parameters and reporting processes.

  • Negotiate and execute supplier purchase orders and agreements to support warehousing and fabrication operations.

  • Understand and implement best practices for transport methods, product presentation and supplies replenishment.

  • Implement and maintain cost-effective inventory controls for materials, goods, and supplies.

  • Lead and manage initiatives for overall cost and spend improvements in support of the Company cost-down goals and objectives.

  • Work within a team structure to achieve Company and departmental goals.

  • Evaluate current practices and implement continuous improvement activities to increase accuracy and efficiency within the job function while remaining responsive to customer needs.

  • Participate as part of a cross functional team to create and implement value-stream related projects to support the overall Company goals and objectives

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned to facilitate the overall operation of the Department or Company,


  • Bachelor’s Degree Minimum

  • 2-3 years progressive experience in Demand Planning, Production Scheduling and Tactical Purchasing in support of a Manufacturing Operation.

  • Track record of taking ownership and driving results

  • Ability think both strategically and tactically with good attention to detail

  • Ability to identify areas of needing improvement and implementing these improvements.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational and problem solving skills with the ability to gather pertinent facts and data quickly and act decisively based on information obtained.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, with awareness of deadlines.
