WPEC in West Palm Beach is seeking an enterprising and bold Special Projects Reporter who will work within a special unit to investigate specific challenges in our DMA, pursuing angles and remedies over a period of years. We are looking for a strong storyteller with a clear understanding of how to dig for a story, do their own research and use language and production techniques to create impactful, memorable pieces. This position will report to the WPEC News Director, as well as the Vice President of News and the Director of News Content. If you believe focusing relentlessly on a single, important topic over the long haul can change a community for the better--- this could be your dream job!

 Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain contacts and sources in the community to enterprise story ideas
  • Identify and pitch investigative angles to news stories
  • Work closely with WPEC News Director and SBG Corp News managers to refine investigative pitches and story scripts
  • Write online versions of investigative reports and assist in creating "web extra" content for each stage of the investigation
  • Maintain an active social media presence to build brand and solicit stories
  • Other duties as assigned

Experience:

  • 5+ years of investigative reporting experience preferred
  • History of award-winning investigative journalism preferred
