Smalley is currently looking for an Environmental Health and Safety Manager! The EHS Manager will be working to create and enforce a culture of safety within Smalley, while reporting to the Director of Operations. He/she will implement programs, policies, and assessments to ensure that Smalley is in compliance with all local, federal, and internal environmental, health and, safety rules. The EHS Manager will also be reviewing reports and findings to monitor performance, and detect trends related to health and safety.

The EHS Manager will work closely with quality, manufacturing, engineering, and maintenance teams, as well as support staff and will be largely involve in audits pertaining to EHS. He/she will need to be present at other times for projects or assessments during 2nd and 3rd work shifts, if applicable. In cases of emergency, he/she may be required to be on call in order to provide guidance and logistical support. The EHS Manager will support the maintenance of policies and procedures pertaining to EHS with Human Resources.

Primary Responsibilities:

Practice safe working techniques and re-enforce the safety policies, guidelines, and procedures as set out by the Company.

  • Provide daily guidance and direction in EHS programs at all levels to ensure a common and effective approach.
  • Ensure that contractor personnel working on the property are in compliance with Smalley policies and safety requirements.
  • Maintain and update as needed SOP’s for all safe work practices and equipment and utilize them in the day to day training.
  • Develop, implement and administer safety and health programs.
  • Provide advice, assist, and audit line management to ensure that effective EHS is implemented and working.
  • Perform and contribute to the Site Training Plans by conducting employee orientations; emergency response training; and coordination of training programs for the Operation.
  • Coordinate with Operations and General Manager on facility deficiencies and monthly safety inspections.
  • Maintain all logs and documentation associated with permits and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with maintaining the Site Preparedness and Emergency Plans & Procedures.
  • Accountable for researching and writing permit applications and work with environmental agencies and be compliant in completing permit reporting requirements when required or applicable.
  • Review accidents and incidents which occur in the area of responsibility and conduct field audits, reporting and managing the corrective actions.
  • Along with HR maintaining filing systems regarding worker training and safety.
  • Will be part of the Emergency Response Team.
  • Lead the Safety Committee.

Job Requirements

Education and Training:

  • Minimum of five years’ experience in Environmental Health and Safety role.
  • Computer skills (e.g. MS Office including Excel and Word) are essential.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills

  • Team player and able to build and maintain relationships both internal and external.
  • Flexible to change and open to constructive feedback.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.


  • Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must be authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis
