Job Description

Smalley Steel Ring Company is the market leader in the industrial retaining ring and wave/compression spring manufacturing business. We have been manufacturing and supplying the aerospace, automotive and other industrial markets for over 50 years. We currently have an opening for a 3rd Shift Inspection Supervisor. The 3rd Shift Inspection Supervisor provides general supervision of the inspection, test, and SPC functions. The Supervisor directs and coordinates the inspection and test activities of Leads, Inspectors, and SPC Auditors. He/she interacts directly with production, general supervisors, and the 3rd shift Plant Manager in the accomplishment of support, scheduling, and improvement objectives in the manufacturing and inspection processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitors inspection, test and SPC queues and initiates action to maintain acceptable levels.
  • Initiates cross-training and initial training programs that encompass all aspects of the manufacturing inspection, test and SPC functions to expand and improve coverage and personnel qualifications.
  • Develops manpower utilization to satisfy actual and projected requirements.
  • Coordinates the inspection and test response to schedule requirements as identified at regular production meetings held with manufacturing supervision and management.
  • Develops a work scheduling system that responds to priorities and day requirements in each inspection and test location. Refines systems to provide a "look-ahead" capability to streamline throughput and resolve chronic obstacles or delays.
  • Establishes effective lines of communication and feedback with manufacturing general supervisors, Quality Engineers, and Quality Planners to ensure prompt attention and resolution of conditions that adversely affect quality or throughput.
  • Monitors, and maintains, performance reporting systems relative to the effectiveness of the inspection and testing operations and initiates necessary action based upon results.
  • Maintains employee development and participation programs that achieve the individuals' potential and added value to the organization. Extends the program to all levels from inspector to Lead.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5 years inspection experience
    • A minimum of 3 in a leadership position
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working with MS Office, Outlook, AS400 preferred
  • Strong leadership and self-motivational skills.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis.
