Job Description

Basic Purpose:

To oversee quality and continuous improvement efforts, to include strategy, training, coaching and facilitating necessary changes throughout the organization.  Responsible for establishing strategic plans, policies, and procedures at all levels for quality improvement to ensure that the products will meet or exceed internal needs and external customers’ needs and expectations.  Manage with outside agencies any quality certifications and approvals to include any international standards that may be required. 

 

Nature and Scope:

This position reports to the Director of Quality.  The key to developing a continuous system of improvement will be developing a vision and mission, strategies, tactics and key performance indicators which will be widely disseminated, understood and used by all departments within Taylor Machine Works.  The ultimate goal is that every employee will know, understand and by driven by this vision and measurements.  The Manager of Quality will work with the various leaders in each department to assist in identifying and addressing quality issues and trends for a proactive and collaborative environment.  The incumbent will develop a continuous training program for the quality control team.  Such training will include knowledge of quality inspection techniques, company policies and procedures pertaining to quality, to include recommended procedures by ISO and various quality organizations.  Particular emphasis will be placed on training QC supervisors who will, in turn, communicate and train subordinates.  

 

He/she will work with Design and Manufacturing Engineering teams to ensure that new products meet reliability, cost and time to market objectives.  Activities will include continual refinements in the manufacturability review process.  He/she will develop methodology to measure the effectiveness of new product reliability and delivery processes. 

 

Principal Accountabilities:

  1. Organize, develop, and staff the Quality Control section to meet the immediate and long-term quality assurance need; appraise the performance of key subordinates and maximize their individual effectiveness, provide or recommend appropriate recognition, and if necessary, dispense discipline.
  2. Oversee the development, modification, application, and maintenance of standards for quality operating methods, processes, systems and procedures. 
  3. Oversee the development and analysis of statistical data and product specifications to determine present standards and reliability expectancy of finished products.  Work to address and remedy high priority customer quality issues. 
  4. Improve product quality through the identification of trends and leading teams responsible for the reduction of warranty returns. 
  5. Engage in or arrange for professional training of Quality Control personnel for N.D.E certification as required by applicable Codes and Standards. 
  6. Supervise inspection, activities, and related paperwork to assure the effectiveness of the system and consequent quality of workmanship and acceptability of the product.
  7. Analyze, compile, and generate reports from DOA reject and warranty claims to aid in developing or improving systems and processes to improve product quality.
  8. Supervise a program of inspection and approval of purchased parts (including engines, transmissions, axles, a host of smaller parts, frames, and other weldments and products from subcontractors) ensuring that the components meet the applicable standards and that they conform to established standards set forth by Taylor engineering requirements and specifications.
  9. Supervise the continuous appraisal of the finished product, including any service problems that appear, in an effort to upgrade quality and eliminate causes of breakdown.
  10. Serve on the Warranty Committee, helping formulate decisions as to the liability of Taylor.
  11. Develop and maintain a Supplier Quality Manual to aid in determining compliance by outsource suppliers to Taylor Machine Works' standards and specifications.
  1. Develop and maintain inspection process in parts fabrication and assembly including inspection checklists and maintenance of inspection records and tool calibrations.
  2. Develop and maintain an acceptable Quality Control Manual of standards and procedures usable by all other functions and departments of the company.
  3. Responsible for implementation and compliance to ISO 9001.
  4. Perform internal quality audits as required.
  5. Assures congruence between site quality manual and actual practices.
  6. Accountable for administering his/her area of authority with intensity, consistency, good judgment, and common sense. He/she is to delegate this authority to his/her subordinates by teaching them the rules of good management practices.

  • Proven track record in accomplishing product reliability and process improvement projects with demonstrated results.
  • Proven ability to motivate and inspire an entire organization to develop and achieve its objectives.
  • Previous background in training of individuals in manufacturing or quality processes.
  • Excellent communication skills and pro-active approach to solving problems.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills showcased by a history of building constructive and effective relationships with all levels of people, both inside and outside the organization.
  • Experience with international and multi-cultural environment.

 

Physical and Educational Requirements:

  • BS Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis on manufacturing management or technology or
  • BS Degree in Industrial Technology with emphasis on Quality Management.
  • Ability to travel.
  • ASQ and Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certification would be a plus but not required.
  • SharePoint Development not required, but preferred.
  • Experience with ISO start-up not required, but preferred.
