Job Description

KGW is looking for someone who will excel as both an anchor and a storyteller who can shoot and edit their own stories. We want a candidate who is excited to help lead our newsroom into the digital age of journalism. In this job you will create unique and shareable stories for all platforms through memorable writing, photography and editing. This role is a salaried, unionized position reporting to the News Director. ​


Responsibilities of the position include:

•Anchor weekday newscasts in an engaging, exciting, and accurate manner and fill-in anchor on other newscasts as needed

•Develop story ideas, write, shoot and edit news stories for all broadcast and digital platforms while using the latest editing and photography tools. Use creative production techniques such as graphics and new forms of media to enhance stories.

•Develop original content through social listening and independent sources. Write and post daily on all digital platforms including social media.

•Enterprise news stories and develop news sources for general assignment and special areas of interest. Interview news subjects and research for facts and credibility.

Job Requirements

Requirements Include:

​•Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or related field 

•Understanding of the tenets of professional journalism 2-5 years of experience

•Experience in photojournalism, editing, and content management systems

•Experience with breaking news and weather reporting

•Ability to generate creative, engaging, content-driven live shots

•Strong social media skills and presence

•Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events

•Ability to work under constant time pressure deadlines

•Knowledge of ENPS, Edius, Premiere, After Effects and Photoshop a plus

•Host and help organize community events

•Ability to work days, nights and weekends as needed
