Job Description

KFMB (CBS8 and The CW San Diego), TEGNA’s CBS and CW affiliates in San Diego, CA, is looking for an experienced, dynamic, enterprising multimedia Anchor

The ideal candidate must be connected to the community, fully understand the market and connect with the audience on all platforms: TV, social, mobile and online.  

We are looking for a newsroom leader who commands the anchor desk and is a great storyteller.  This position also requires the proven ability to skillfully ad lib in any breaking news situation as well as conduct interesting and informative interviews. 

Candidates should have a portfolio with examples of strong anchoring and creative storytelling. 


  • Anchor weekday newscasts and engage viewers.
  • Deliver on-air news events in an engaging, exciting, and accurate manner.
  • Generate unique, compelling and innovative story/show ideas and content.
  • Develop original content through social listening and independent sources.
  • Develop story ideas, write, shoot and edit news stories for on-air broadcasting.
  • Develop news sources for general assignment and special areas of interest.
  • Develop and contribute news events and deliver them in-studio in a compelling, accurate fashion.
  • Develop contacts and relationships in the community.
  • Write and post daily on all digital platforms including social media.
  • Community and/or talent appearances.
  • Interview news subjects and research for facts and credibility.
  • Perform other tasks as required by news director or executive producer.


Job Requirements


  • Minimum 5 years’ experience required as an anchor in a medium to large market.
  • Journalist and/or Mass Communication degree preferred.
  • Strong on-camera delivery.
  • Understands the tenants of professional journalism.
  • Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events.
  • Strong social media presence, including an active presence on Twitter and Facebook.
  • Excellent use of social media for news gathering/disseminating and community engagement.
  • Ability to work under time constraints and deadlines.
  • Ability to write and package news stories, including live skills.
  • Ability to cultivate sources.
