Job Description

KING 5, the TEGNA owned NBC affiliate in Seattle, is looking for an experienced, dynamic, enterprising Anchor. The successful candidate is a newsroom leader with excellent interviewing skills and proven ability to skillfully ad lib in any live situation on all platforms.

This candidate must be connected to the community, fully understand the market and engage with the audience across all screens.  The candidate will have strong editorial judgment and be able to work with producers and reporters to deliver relevant and engaging information. 

Candidates should have a portfolio with examples of strong anchoring and creative storytelling.

Responsibilities:

  • Anchor weekday or weekend newscasts.
  • Deliver on-air news events in an engaging, exciting, and accurate manner.
  • Generate unique, compelling and innovative story/show ideas and content.
  • Develop original content through social listening and independent sources.
  • Develop story ideas, write, shoot and edit news stories.
  • Develop news sources for general assignment and special areas of interest.
  • Develop contacts and relationships in the community.
  • Write and post daily on all digital platforms, including social media.
  • Interview news subjects and research for facts and credibility.

Job Requirements

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years medium or large market anchor/reporting experience.
  • Journalism or Mass Communications degree preferred.
  • Understand the tenants of professional Journalism.
  • Ability to calmly and effectively handle live, breaking news situations.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
  • Participate in various community events on behalf of the station.
  • Strong and engaging social media presence, including Facebook and Twitter. 
  • Excellent presentation and writing skills.
