Job Description

KENS 5, the TEGNA station in beautiful San Antonio, TX is looking for an Audience Engagement Specialist to join our award-winning marketing team.  The successful candidate will be a hybrid between creativity and community engagement – all with an eye on increasing our engagement with our community.  

From the creative perspective, this position will be tasked with suggesting and implementing creative ideas for television, social, digital and community efforts.  This person will work with the marketing team to execute ideas and will be called upon to work both with the team and on their own.  This will include writing, shooting and editing for on-air and on-line. 

From the community standpoint, the successful candidate will work to increase the presence of KENS 5 in the community.  You will work hand in hand with the Marketing Director and sales to support our KENS Cares initiative, as well as create new opportunities for KENS to interact with and improve our community.

Responsibilities

  • Creating marketing content for on-air and digital
  • Write/shoot/edit
  • Brainstorming and implementing ideas that advance the KENS 5 brand
  • Pitch creative suggestions to station management, sales and community leaders
  • Work closely with sales and marketing management to advance the KENS Cares brand
  • Liaison with community leaders to extend the KENS brand into the community
  • Create and maintain a community marketing plan
  • Additional responsibilities as required

  • Minimum of three years consumer marketing experience with a promotion-specific record of success in any of the following: broadcast, cable, digital or agency (marketing/digital/advertising).
  • Must understand the value of promotions placement across multiple mediums as a fundamental driver in executing the brand strategy.
  • College degree in marketing, advertising, journalism, social media, or film preferred.
  • Must be familiar with the Sony FS7, or similar cameras. If you've never operated a camera, this job is not for you.
  • Proficient in software like Final Cut Pro, Premiere, Photoshop, and After Effects to produce high-quality, high-impact creative.
  • Act as an ambassador for the KENS 5 brand
  • A planner by nature, able to operate with a sense of urgency in the present and be constantly looking six to 18 months out to bring organization, order, and planning to the larger marketing efforts.
  • Real-time, multi-platform marketing experience with proven record of marketing content on linear and non-linear platforms.
  • Using research and applying sound strategy, develop and execute creative concepts via on-air news promos, station image campaigns, original content, and graphic design. Campaigns should deliver a clear message and reinforce the value of the station and/or client's brand.
  • Guiding the overall look/tone/feel of creative campaigns through writing, shooting and editing on-air spots and other marketing materials.
  • Possessing the skills to create innovative concepts - with strong writing skills to back it all up.
  • Ability to spot trends and build future-proof strategies that grow audiences amidst rapidly-changing content, technology, societal, and consumer landscapes.
  • Insight-driven with an ability to work with local and corporate research teams, data analytics platforms (Google Analytics, Chartbeat, Crowdtangle, Tableau) and third-party vendors to garner insights and translate those into effective, measurable marketing strategies.
  • Ability to work with a sense of urgency within a deadline-oriented, fast-paced team environment, juggling multiple projects and priorities at once
  • Work under pressure, develop production plans and realistic timetables, manage multiple activities and prioritize deadlines, collaborate productively and positively with internal personnel and external partners and apply strategic thinking, identify clear priorities and meet goals, work continually toward self-development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Able to be the conduit to cross departmental boundaries.
  • Ability to pitch and present concepts and campaigns to key clients, community leaders and news content leadership and analyze results.
  • Comfortable working non-traditional hours in breaking-news situations.
