Job Description

TEGNA has an exciting opportunity for a Collection AR Specialist. As a Collection AR Specialist, you will play a critical role in our customer experience by timely and accurately resolving challenges driving delinquency through effective communication in all situations. You will play a critical role in reducing Accounts Receivable exposure by ensuring assigned portfolio is pro-actively monitored and collections efforts are prompt, effective and according to company policy.

Responsibilities:

  • Participates in a team environment interacting and providing innovative suggestions to reduce transaction (payment and adjustment) exceptions and unapplied or misapplied payments.
  • Study, interpret and develop a thorough understanding of problems and opportunities; ability to develop and communicate the story to various levels of leadership
  • Responsible for critical review, analysis and resolution of customer deductions and short payments driving delinquency within defined SLAs.
  • Communicate and collaborate with other groups to identify and resolve root cause to prevent non-conformities
  • Proactively manage portfolio including past due status, placing delinquent accounts on hold based on policy guidelines and collaborates with sales, or customer as appropriate.
  • Accountable for reducing delinquency for assigned accounts to achieve individual and department goals.
  • Analyzes customer account information including customer's purchases, payments, history, ability to pay and business strategy to determine if an order on credit hold can be released ensuring compliance to credit policy.
  • Manage an A/R portfolio by analyzing and resolving issues driving delinquency
  • Provide a high level of customer service to both internal and external customers to secure timely payment of invoices
  • Perform strategic deployment on target accounts to utilize technical and analytical skills for A/R clean up and recovery efforts
  • Collaborate with other groups to analyze and resolve root causes to prevent the occurrence of nonconformities
  • Research and reconciliation of open AR to identify and resolve past due invoices.
  • Initiate collections of past due items via telephone and email in order to reduce past due balances
  • Effectively handle high volume of inbound and outbound calls.
  • Thoroughly note all collection activity and follow up on item until final resolution is complete
  • Negotiate payment arrangements
  • Build and maintain a positive business relationship with internal/external customers
  • Identify and communicate opportunities for process improvements.
  • Participate in special projects, and perform other related duties as assigned. Collection calls of delinquent accounts
  • Aging analysis
  • Process refunds, credits and other accounting adjustments
  • Prepare various A/R analytical reports
  • Properly document all collection activity in the accounts receivable system

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of AR experience
  • 2+ years of commercial collections experience 5+ years with overall Accounts Receivable knowledge and experience or bachelor's degree
  • 3+ years of deduction or dispute resolution experience preferred
  • Knowledge of MS Office Software applications, including Excel. Must exhibit intermediate Excel skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with all levels of department management and with customers
  • Professional demeanor and superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in high volume organization with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and have the flexibility to handle various job assignments
  • Able to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, and commissions
  • Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form/ spreadsheet
  • Must possess excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
  • Broadcast experience is strongly preferred
  • Home connections to include Wi-Fi and phone access as needed
  • Experience in using Zoom, Skype and Micro-soft teams a plus
