Job Description

KTVB is searching for an experienced journalist to assist with curating the best local stories and coordinating our newsroom staff. This strong communicator will have a pulse on what newsroom crews need to know - including what breaking news just came across the police scanner, what's trending on our website and the topics locals can't stop talking about on Nextdoor and Reddit.

You'll be thinking equally about our content on TV and our digital platforms while ensuring no valuable reader tip (or point of view) falls through the cracks.

This is a role for someone who thrives in high-energy positions and has a keen ability to balance multiple tasks in stressful situations. The payoff? Responsibilities ​ ​

Content Discovery

  • Monitors regional and national digital TEGNA content, curating select content for our audiences
  • Posting breaking digital news, sending push alerts and assigning follow-up
  • Social listening and moderation
  • Reviews and organizes news releases
  • Answers the newsroom phone and manages the voicemail inbox
  • Scours various digital sources (Reddit, Craigslist, Facebook groups) for story ideas 
  • Researches story ideas for coverage possibilities
  • Sends daily digital "what's trending" e-mails to the newsroom using real-time analytics and social listening tools (Chartbeat, Crowdtangle) 
  • Monitors and maintains scanners and other communications equipment
  • Routes and records video feeds
  • Responds to video requests and sends approved videos to requesting sources
  • Maintain newsroom monitors to keep information on them visible and useful for crews

News crew management

  • Organizes and runs morning and afternoon news content meetings
  • Helps assign crews to daily and future assignments
  • Alerts newsroom stakeholders to breaking news 
  • Adjusts crew assignments as necessary to cover developing/breaking news
  • Continually keeps crews informed of story developments and relays information to newsroom personnel
  • Helps organize and assign vehicles, live equipment and ifb for crews
  • Assists crews with court requests and access
  • Keeps information in newsroom planner up-to-date and well organized​
