Job Description

KSDK, 5 On Your Side, is looking for a creative, motivational, ambitious and experienced newsroom leader to grow loyalty for our newscasts and digital products. This is a key role in our transition to a ‘one content team’ that focuses on covering news highly relevant to the St. Louis audience, regardless of platform.

This person will have a demonstrated track record of presenting news content in captivating ways. He/She will develop strategies to meet the goals of 5 On Your Side on broadcast, digital and social platforms. The successful candidate will oversee the publication of content on all platforms. He/She will collaborate with other newsroom managers and work with all parts of the organization, including marketing, engineering, and the newsroom as a whole to ensure the most accurate and compelling coverage.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Lead a team of producers to create unique, sharable news content for broadcast, online and social media.

Oversee editorial content on all platforms.

Edit, approve and publish newscast scripts and website articles for balance, accuracy and context.

Work with the producers, writers, assignment desk and editors to identify and publish memorable content for each platform.

Act as liaison to reporters to help produce their stories for the greatest impact online and in newscasts

Inspire producers with production techniques, stellar writing skills and local news knowledge

Work closely with the Managing Editor to decide how each reporter-assigned story will be told in a multi-platform experience

Regularly critique newscasts with the team and individual producers 

Perform tasks as required by the News Content Director

Oversee special projects and breaking news coverage, as needed 

 

Job Requirements

Job requirements:

 

Newsroom leadership experience strongly preferred, as an executive producer, website manager, managing editor, assistant news director or news director

Strong understanding of the principles of journalism 

Familiarity with both website and broadcast best practices

Strong people skills

Organization skills and ability to work under deadline pressure  

Knowledge of the St. Louis market, a plus

 

BA/BS in Journalism or Communications
