Job Description

9NEWS is searching for a breaking news-focused Digital Content Producer who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has a vision for what local news can and should be on digital, social and streaming platforms. This position is a member of our weekend content team who uses social listening, audience engagement and all methods of incoming communication to confirm, produce and publish content on all 9NEWS platforms. This person works closely with all colleagues in the newsroom to help make editorial decisions and assignments.

9NEWS Digital Content Producers are leaders in the newsroom who are responsible for quality content and audience experience on all 9NEWS digital, social and streaming platforms including content production, presentation and distribution. They help create multiple platform storytelling through all 9NEWS platforms including broadcast, digital and social by working with all content creators and producers. They enterprise content through social listening, being plugged into the community, pitching stories and producing original content for our audience whenever and wherever they are, on whatever device they are using at the time. 


  • Urgently and aggressively reports news as it happens online (strong breaking news skills)
  • Produce audience first, engaging storytelling through digital articles, videos, photo galleries, social media, push alerts, live streams and interactive elements.
  • Works with all newsroom departments on content coverage, broadcast-digital coordination and social listening.
  • Actively searches for enterprise content and breaking news.
  • Manage and moderate 9NEWS brand Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts.
  • Track trending stories via ChartBeat, CrowdTangle, Google Trends and our social platforms. Report findings to newsroom.
  • Use digital and social analytics to inform editorial decisions.
  • Copy edit digital articles and social media posts for accuracy, balance, context and grammar.
  • Generate web traffic through Search Engine Optimization best practices, website management, app management, push notifications and application of advanced social media skills.
  • Assist reporters and anchors in the creation of native social content.
  • Implement best practices on 9NEWS digital and social platforms.
  • Produce, shoot, edit videos for 9NEWS digital products, such as YouTube and 9NEWS streaming apps.
  • Ensure newsroom upholds journalistic integrity and the 9NEWS brand across platforms.

Job Requirements


  • Two years experience working as a digital producer or digital journalist preferred.
  • Excellent AP Style writing, editing, proofreading and copy editing skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Basic video and graphic production skills and knowledge.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage requests from various sources with an ability to work well with varied personalities within deadlines.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Sound news judgment and ability to work both autonomously and as a part of a team.
  • Interest in digital metrics and preferably experience in Google Analytics, CrowdTangle and Chartbeat.
