Job Description


KFMB– CBS News 8, TEGNA’s CBS affiliate in San Diego, is searching for an experienced and passionate Digital Executive Producer to work with the digital and on-air teams to drive the gathering, creation, and distribution of engaging, compelling content across all digital and social platforms. This leader will work closely with the Digital Content Director and the newsroom management team to continue to grow the station’s content and audience-focused strategy. Our ideal candidate utilizes social listening to help make sound editorial decisions and will be a bold voice in the editorial meetings.  This position reports to the Digital Content Director. 



Works closely with the digital team and digital management to coordinate daily digital news efforts.   
Assigns daily stories and projects to the Digital Content Producers.  
Focuses on accuracy and strong SEO in digital articles and social content through copy editing and closely working with the digital team.  
Aggressively covers breaking news for digital/social platforms through breaking news alerts, live streams, social posts and digital articles.   
Champions story planning to produce digital first, engaging storytelling through articles, videos, photo galleries, social media, push alerts, live streams and interactive elements.  
Boldly participates in the newsroom editorial meetings to make editorial decisions based on social listening, digital data and live metrics.  
Actively partners with content team leaders including the Digital Content Director, Director of Content, Managing Editor, Executive Producers, and Marketing Director to create a multiple platform, 360 storytelling experiences for the audience.  
Evangelizes and supports the digital strategy to grow multi-platform content, audience, video, and engagement KPIs.  
Works with editorial team on best digital and social practices to create unique content that resonates on each specific platform.  
Collaborates with the Assignment Desk on potential story ideas and planning for both on-air and digital coverage  

Job Requirements


Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or equivalent experience in the field  
3-5 years managing, producing and showcasing digital and social content in a newsroom environment  
Excellent copyediting skills  
A desire and demonstrated ability to lead other journalists  
Experience in all forms of digital content development and execution, photojournalism, video editing, and content management systems  
Well versed in online metrics such as Google Analytics, Chartbeat, CrowdTangle, Facebook Insights, YouTube Analytics, etc.  
Passion and vision for emerging media, ability to pivot based on new technology  
Working knowledge of Content Management Systems, Basic HTML, and live stream technology  
Strong organizational, motivational, and communication skills  
Flexibility in work schedule and able to work nights and weekends 
Ability to adjust in high demand work environment, meet deadlines, and lead change ​
