Job Description

KXTV ABC10, a TEGNA station and ABC affiliate in Sacramento, California is seeking an Engineering Supervisor. This leadership position requires the ability to lead broadcast production workflows and related technology infrastructure of KXTV. The Engineering Supervisor will manage engineering staff and will have a direct oversight of department’s daily operations. The successful candidate will also support the integration of new production systems and technologies under the direction of the Head of Engineering and Operations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Help lead the growth of support engineering staff.  Push staff to achieve their best, proactively address issues, and maintain a continual dialogue of performance and expectations.
  • Train staff on IT and Broadcast system operation and maintenance to service all aspects of the television environment.
  • Support day to day operations of broadcast information technology systems, software, and equipment.
  • Maintain programming logs as required by station management and the Federal Communications Commission.
  • Maintain logs of production activities.
  • Maintain, upgrade, and support broadcast Information Technology throughout the station, including the studio and transmitter facilities.
  • Create and maintain wiring documentation, and system configuration documentation.
  • Maintain knowledge and stay current on technological advances including computer software and hardware, media and entertainment technologies, television broadcasting, studio production and workstation products.

Job Requirements



  • BA/BS in Computer Science or IT related degree preferred.
  • Transmitter/satellite/RF experience required.
  • Computer and broadcast technical skills are required.
  • Experience managing a team of technical staff in a 24/7 operation.
  • Solid understanding of current computer hardware, network technologies, and Microsoft's Active Directory environment.
  • Cisco iOS knowledge or related experience. Cisco certification is a plus.
  • Understanding of file-based multimedia technologies and video edit systems is a plus.
  • Effective with written and verbal communication (ability to clearly communicate the status of problems, provide updates to progress on projects, and offer solutions to technical issues).
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with non-technical end users.
  • Available to work various hours and days including weekends, overnights, and holidays, as needed.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders and work on elevated surfaces, pull and install wiring, use hand and power tools, work on small components, and perform other physical tasks.
