Do you thrive on digging for stories, breaking news and connecting with the community? WCNC, the TEGNA-owned NBC affiliate in Charlotte, is looking for a dynamic, motivated Executive Producer- Digital to join our team. The ideal candidate has great people skills, knowledge of North Carolina and expert knowledge of digital and social media. This person is a leader with a strong voice in the editorial meetings and in the newsroom championing accuracy, quality and audience experience on all digital platforms, especially our website. The Executive Producer - Digital reports to the Director of Digital Content.

The Executive Producer - Digital will:

  • Collaborate on content plans for daily news creation
  • Develop ongoing content projects
  • Create and help execute content flow plans
  • Oversee on platform story selection, posting, and overall quality
  • Manage team of digital writers
  • Champion original, digital-first content production.
  • Work with the digital producers, digital writers, show producers, content producers, multi-skilled journalists, photojournalists, reporters and hosts to create a multi-platform storytelling experience.
  • Assign daily stories and updates to digital team members.
  • Train editorial team in best digital and social practices to create engaging content that is specific to platforms.
  • Assist with story planning and logistics to produce digital first, engaging storytelling through videos, articles, photo galleries, social media, push alerts, live streams and interactive elements.
  • Aggressively cover breaking news for digital/social platforms through breaking news alerts, live streams, social posts and web articles.
  • Report news as it happens online and generate web traffic through application of advanced social media showcasing skills.

Job Requirements

Job Requirements: 

  • BA/BS in journalism, communications or related field
  • 5+ years of professional experience with increased levels of responsibility
  • Experience in writing, editing, SEO and content management systems
  • Excellent copyediting skills
  • Understanding the tenets of professional journalism 
  • Strong social media skills, including an active news hound presence on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Reddit
  • Knowledge of digital data sources and experience in making data driven strategic or tactical decisions
  • Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time pressure deadlines
  • Passion and vision for emerging media
