At WFAA, TEGNA Media's ABC affiliate in Dallas, TX, we're on the hunt for a highly-skilled and creative Investigative Visual Journalist to join our award-winning Investigative Team. The journalist we're looking for desires to step out of the traditional format and demonstrates a willingness to break the mold with visual storytelling.​

WFAA prefers a photojournalist with investigative experience who has a knack for producing and elevating both short-term and long-term investigative projects on issues that impact our communities. The successful candidate must be eager to tell great visual stories on their own or with a team by capturing creative video & audio elements for these stories in a deadline environment. This candidate should also be a skilled editor equipped with sharp post-production skills for independently creating complex graphics. We're looking for someone who wants to completely immerse themselves in the storytelling process while collaborating with a team of reporters and producers.

For this role:

  • Passion for capturing video & audio elements that produce compelling and engaging investigations for audiences on all platforms
  • Edit stories with Adobe Premiere and After Effects with ability to adapt to other editing platforms as needed
  • DSLR and Sony FS series camera experience preferred
  • Investigative photography and storytelling experience preferred
  • FAA licensed drone pilot is a plus
  • Ability to collaborate with reporters and producers or work independently and develop a vision for stories
  • Ability to operate live remote equipment
  • Familiarity with all distribution platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Internet, etc.
  • Post to social media, editing social videos, and creating digital content
  • Attend editorial meetings, participate in discussions, and suggest story ideas
  • Excellent organizational skills​

  • BA/BS in journalism, communications or related field
  • 3-5 years of experience as a TV photojournalist and news editor preferred
  • Investigative experience in broadcast journalism
  • Must be able to independently conceptualize and create complex graphics
  • Must help promote a culture of innovative storytelling
  • Advance storytelling experienced required
  • Must be able to tell the news story creatively with strong audio and visual skills
  • Must be able to make quick decisions while working under pressured deadlines
  • Must be flexible with schedule, reliable and dependable, with ability to travel with short notice
  • Active member of the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) preferred
  • Strong computer skills in a mobile environment required
  • Must have a valid driver's license, able to lift up to 40 lbs. and occasionally up to 80 lbs. with or without an accommodation
