Job Description

KARE 11 is seeking a Manager, Digital Video who will elevate the quality and oversee the production of video content across all KARE 11 digital and social media platforms with an audience-first focus across all screens.

This person will help create content plans for daily news, develop ongoing video-focused projects, spearhead Sweeps initiatives, create and help execute content flow plans, and play a leadership role on the digital content team. 

The ideal candidate utilizes social listening and is able to explain digital data to the news team to help make editorial decisions. This person is a leader with a strong voice in the editorial meetings and in the newsroom championing best practices and audience experience on all platforms. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Creates original, innovative video content for KARE 11 digital and social platforms
  • Works with the digital producers, show producers, content producers, multi-skilled journalists, photojournalists, reporters and anchors to create a multiple platform, 360 storytelling experiences.
  • Manages and mentors a team of two Digital Video Producers
  • Collaborate with other digital team leads to plan and execute Sweeps content
  • Creates content that both acknowledges evolving consumption habits and works toward hitting our annual KPIs
  • Stays abreast of industry trends and keeps KARE 11 at the forefront of innovative storytelling
  • Uses digital and social metrics to inform decisions and collaborates with Digital Content Director on weekly and quarterly reports
  • Disseminates corporate-level communication to team
  • Works with Brand Health Manager to ensure our digital and social video content is aligned tonally with overall KARE brand
  • When required, aggressively covers breaking news for digital/social platforms through breaking news alerts, live streams, social posts and web articles.
  • Social listening: monitor social chatter and track trending stories via ChartBeat, CrowdTangle, Google Trends and our social platforms. Report findings to newsroom.

Job Requirements

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years managing, producing and showcasing digital and social content in a newsroom
  • Experience in a leadership position
  • Experience shooting and editing video, particularly with social native content in mind
    • Comfortable with Adobe Premiere or Edius
  • Significant experience with live streams
  • Skilled copy editor
  • Understanding of copyright law, music rights and basic journalism legal principals
  • Well-versed in online metrics such as Google Analytics, Chartbeat, CrowdTangle, Facebook Insights, YouTube Analytics, etc.
  • Working knowledge of Content Management Systems and basic HTML
  • Knowledge of best practices across social platforms
  • Keen interest in emerging digital trends and evolving consumption habits
  • BS/BA in related field - journalism, communications, broadcast, digital media
