Job Description

TEGNA is seeking a Manager of Ingest and Content to join our Centralized Hub team.  This leadership position is part of a team responsible for the live operation, monitoring and support of multiple stations 24 by 7 in a single centralized environment.  The ideal candidate is a self-starter capable of working independently or as part of a team. This position reports directly to the Head of Broadcast Hub Operations.  This leader will work from Tuesday through Saturday as well as multiple shifts to understand the demands during all day parts.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day to day operation of the Hub ingest team, including leadership of supervisors, scheduling to meet peak load demands and directly interfacing with spoke stations.
  • Evolve our current standard operating procedures (SOPs) and develop new workflows to improve efficiency. Partner with Automation vendors to maintain our current processes while developing new software enhancements to improve these workflows.
  • Build staffing schedules to ensure appropriate coverage for Hub ingest team in critical workload time periods for content.
  • Set and communicate performance goals and conduct reviews of goals with supervisors and ingest staff.
  • Manage and perform duties to ensure the on-air integrity of content for all Hub stations. Provide immediate response to emergency situations that may affect on-air programming.
  • Ensure that specified technical procedures and Ingest SOPs are being followed by spoke stations.
  • Develop technical training initiatives to ensure all Hub ingest staff members understand the complete systems and hardware within Loading dock, asset base, and Crispin Core.
  • Develop technical training initiatives to ensure all spoke Traffic and Programming staff understand the Hub workflow and SOPs. Work directly with Operations Team to on-board new stations into the Hub.
  • Create daily, weekly and monthly “look-ahead” metrics that detail current workload for short-form and long-form content used as a tool to monitor future staffing and equipment needs.
  • Develop efficiency metrics for Ingest detailing and reasoning lost revenue as per Paid and Commercial Content.
  • Create spoke efficiency metrics tracking station content delivery in relation to timing of that content to air time. Track syndicated content numbers and time spent by ingest per episode, per station.  Create overall report each month on all metrics for corporate updates.

Job Requirements

Requirements:

  • BA/BS in a related field or equivalent experience 
  • Must have ability to deploy staff in strategic manner to support high profile and live events.
  • Proficient in Excel and the entire Microsoft O365 suite of tools.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use electronic equipment and computer hardware and software related to television broadcast operations, including video and audio routing equipment, file servers, remote transmitter monitoring equipment and multi-channel automation systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, take immediate action, and resolve broadcast issues
  • Strong customer service attributes and skills
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Unwavering composure in high-pressure situations 
  • Acute attention to detail 
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience working successfully as part of a team
  • Must be willing to work in Charlotte, North Carolina
  • Must be willing and available to work flexible hours, including overnight shifts, weekends, holidays in order to meet the needs of a 24x7 operation

 

Desired Characteristics:

  • 7+ years of experience in master control or production control room television environment
  • 5 years of managerial experience
  • Proven passion for media, television, and technology
