Job Description

KING/KONG, a TEGNA company, is looking for a Managing Editor to lead day-to-day editorial coverage for all platforms and help plan for special events, including the 2020 Summer Olympics and elections. The KING/KONG duopoly produces 11 hours of live television each weekday and reaches hundreds of thousands of people every day through our digital and social content.

The successful candidate will be able to manage multiple field crews and run an assignment desk to create enterprising content in line with our “Stand for Truth” brand, and have a proven track record of accountability and Investigative reporting that is presented in smart, engaging formats. But, equally as important, the candidate must have good news judgment and know when to cover breaking news aggressively for all screens.

The successful candidate will use the power of social media to our advantage by having the savvy to mine social sites for the best relevant content while not allowing the loudest voices to unduly influence editorial decision making.

Duties Include 

  • Working with assignment desk editors, reporters and photojournalists to find and develop stories for all screens; and regularly inform EPs and content producers of coverage.
  • Planning for all-screen coverage of events.
  • Always looking for the next story and sidebar stories from lead stories.
  • Using daily and long-term audience insights (broadcast and digital) to identify content opportunities. ​

Job Requirements




  • A degree in Journalism or a Communications-related field is preferred.
  • At least three years of management experience in broadcasting and/or digital media.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, research and story development skills are a must.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines; ability to multitask and prioritize multiple needs simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of Western Washington is desired.
  • Must be able to work flexible shifts, including holidays, evenings, mornings, weekends.
