Job Description

WVEC-TV in Norfolk/Virginia Beach has an immediate opening for a weekend meteorologist.  The right candidate will have strong communication skills, an engaging personality, and a love of weather forecasting.  You must have a passion for winning severe weather and telling a compelling weather story with creative graphics even on bright sunny days.  Norfolk/Virginia Beach is a wild weather market – we enjoy all four seasons and handle our share of hurricanes, tornadoes, snow, and flash flooding.  You’ll have to thrive in a competitive environment and love wall-to-wall weather coverage.  This is not just an on-air job.  You’ll be responsible for engaging our viewers on all of our digital and social media platforms as well.  A minimum of two years of on-air weather experience is preferred, along with a college degree in meteorology, atmospheric science, journalism, or a related field.  An advanced AMS or NWA seal is desired.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Candidates must have at least a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology that meets or exceeds the requirements of the AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist program.
  • Candidate must have a good understanding of social media
  • Candidate must have good writing skills
  • Preferred on-air experience of 2 years
  • Hurricane forecasting experience is a plus
