Job Description

​WMAZ is seeking a Meteorologist to join our team. The successful candidate must have a passion for severe weather and the ability to sustain superior continuous coverage for long periods of time on all platforms. This person understands the weather conversation our audience is having on any given day and how to engage and relate to them, even when the sun is shining and there's not a cloud in the sky. We are looking for a team player who can help with every aspect of meteorology, from forecasting, to preparing graphics, to reporting in the field. This person will be an integral part of severe weather coverage, and reaching our consumers across all platforms. The ideal candidate embraces new technology and is willing to explore new ways to present the weather story. This candidate should also believe in all aspects of community involvement including, but not limited to, speaking at schools and other community functions. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide accurate weather forecasts using the most accurate weather technology in a multi-platform environment
  • Create digital and social content multiple times a day and create differentiated weather segments for broadcast
  • Produce clean and informative graphics to tell the weather story
  • Make public appearances
  • Convey a positive brand image for the station in the community at all times and on all platforms
  • Communicate and guide the content teams for aggressive, smart weather coverage when our consumers need it on all platforms
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

What you need:

  • BA/BS in Meteorology, Atmospheric Sciences, journalism, communications or related field
  • Demonstrated ability to provide accurate weather forecasts using the latest weather technology in a multi-platform environment
  • Candidate must have a good understanding of social media
  • Candidate must have good writing skills
  • Organizational skills and the ability to work under time pressure deadlines
  • Be available to work a flexible schedule and fill-in when necessary
