Job Description



WUSA 9 is looking for a meteorologist who is scientifically sound and shines at telling a compelling weather story-even when the weather is quiet. The successful candidate will push our technology to new levels by utilizing augmented reality graphics to make our audiences smarter. This meteorologist will be a strong communicator in severe weather situations and super-skilled in using social media and alert systems to inform our viewers on all platforms. In addition to being digitally engaging, this meteorologist will also represent the station at schools and STEM related events and will be responsible for organizing and communicating with our network of weather watchers. We want someone who isn't afraid to dream big and bring new ideas to the table that will inform, inspire and impact our viewers.


  • ​​Provide accurate weather forecasts using the most accurate weather technology in a multi-platform environment
  • Write, edit, and report on weather content from the field or inside the newsroom 
  • Produce clean and informative graphics to tell the weather story 
  • Produce augmented reality-graphics for use on air and online
  • Update website and social media platforms with urgency
  • Write compelling weather stories that make our viewers smarter
  • Manage and grow our network of weather watchers
  • Make public appearances
  • Effectively and positively reflect the station in the community at all times​​
  • Build partnerships​ in community.

Job Requirements


  • ​Bachelor's degree in Meteorology or Atmospheric Science required.
  • Minimum of three - five years of on air experience as a Broadcast Meteorologist
  • AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist Seal preferred  
  • Be available to work a flexible schedule and fill-in when necessary
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast paced and deadline driven environment
  • Demonstrated ability to  post forecasts, graphics, etc. to various digital media platforms 
  • Strong writing abilities
  •  Fluent with social media platforms and social management tools, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Storify, or able to learn​
  • Current valid driver's license and excellent driving history required​
