Job Description

ABC10 (the TEGNA station in Sacramento, CA) is seeking an experienced Senior Producer to join our innovative Morning Blend team.

Morning Blend is a unique morning show that takes pride in bringing viewers the days headlines in a fun interactive way. The show is a perfect "blend" of news, weather, traffic and entertainment and we take pride in making our viewers part of the show everyday. This team member will assist the Executive Producer and help set the bar others want to follow when it comes to the planning and production of this one of a kind show. The Senior Producer for Morning Blend must be able to identify and produce engaging and shareable content while showcasing stories in a way that differentiates us from our competitors. This role needs someone who is a leader, has a strong journalistic base, excels with conversational writing, and is able to multitask under deadline.  

Expectations:

  • Make initial editorial decisions for morning shows before the Executive Producer arrives to make final approval
  • Work with Hosts to conceptualize, coordinate and approve story packages to make sure it's in line with ABC 10 station policies, practices, and procedures
  • Assist Executive Producer in talent development, show preparation and segment creation/execution
  • Write, edit, produce and time shows/cut-in's/segments
  • Work with Discovery desk editors and newsroom managers to assign stories and monitor coverage
  • Enterprise story ideas and create ways to include user generated content into shows
  • Update daily Newsticker with the latest local content
  • Develop content through social listening and independent sources
  • Lead and inspire news teams to work together for memorable shows
  • Perform other duties as needed by Management

 

Job Requirements

Job Requirements:

  • BA/BS in journalism, communications or related field preferred
  • 3-5 years of producing experience preferred, including supervision and leadership of other journalists
  • Skills in producing engaging, content-driven newscasts and digital content
  • Experience making editorial decisions during live broadcasts
  • Understanding the tenets of professional journalism
  • Ability to train and coach on-air talent, producers, editors
  • Experience building show templates, creating segments and timing on-air broadcasts
  • Strong social media skills, including an active news hound presence on Twitter and Facebook
  • Knowledge of ENPS, Edius and Axis graphics a plus
  • Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time pressure deadlines
  • Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events
