Job Description

​KING/KONG, a TEGNA company, is looking for an experienced Multi-Skilled Journalist (MSJ) to cover the environment beat. 

          Our brand is “Stand for Truth.” We want a reporter to dig deeper into issues that affect the people, economy, wildlife and natural resources of the Pacific Northwest. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of covering environmental stories that advance the public’s understanding of one of the most important and contentious topics of our time. Our audience wants to know how climate change affects wildfires, drought, sea-level rise, flooding and farming. The MSJ will focus on enterprise stories but must also own breaking news on issues ranging from government policy to natural disasters.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborating with news management on a strategy for covering the environment
  • The ability to combine writing, photojournalism and graphics to tell complex stories for digital and TV audiences
  • Meeting all publication and broadcast deadlines
  • Finding stories that add context to daily environmental headlines​

Job Requirements

Requirements

  • College degree in Journalism, Environmental Science or related fields is preferred
  • Ability to shoot, write and edit stories for digital and TV
  • Strong live and in-studio performing skills
  • Skilled with requesting public records and analyzing data to uncover stories and bolster reporting
  • Knowledge of Western Washington and the Pacific Northwest is desired
  • Must be able to work flexible shifts, including holidays, evenings, mornings, weekends​
