Job Description

KFMB News 8 is seeking a News Operations Manager to join our award-winning team.  Responsible for insuring the superior quality of News video and audio presentation through effective management of its technical operations and equipment, maintaining high photojournalistic and news video editing standards, and the planning and management of TV News operating and capital budgets.  

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise news video editing, remote broadcast/engineering areas, and newscast directors.
  • Oversee planning and use of news technology including newsroom computer & video systems/software. Manage applications for election, traffic and weather reporting systems.
  • Act as primary liaison/coordinator for network & affiliate news requests, and point of contact for news logistics & facilities with external relationships including news bureaus, remote camera and weather station locations.
  • Initiate and approve requests as appropriate for the purchase, replacement, or repair of equipment and services.
  • Planning and management of the TV News operating and capital budgets in coordination with News Director and Regional Finance Director.
  • Helps to determine the future direction of KFMB news operations through regular and clear communications with News Director, fellow Department Heads, senior staff leaders, and employees.
  • Initiates requests for the purchase, replacement, or repair of equipment for work group, and participates in budget process when appropriate. Completes required paperwork in an appropriate and timely fashion.
  • Give input on news coverage.
  • Maintains valid California state driver’s license, or other personal licenses required to perform duties.
  • Complete specific projects as requested by the TV News Director.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Valid California driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Previous experience in electronic news gathering operations preferred.
  • Must be willing to work overtime, flexible shifts, and outside in varying weather conditions
  • Able to sit, utilize tools or controls; talk or hear, to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crawl or crouch.
  • Able to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 80 pounds.
  • Special vision abilities required for this job include distant, close, and peripheral vision.
