KHOU 11 is looking for a producer who can craft compelling shows that inform, entertain and celebrate our community. We want creative thinkers who know that in 2019 news is a conversation with our audience. We're looking for a producer who can write stories that our diverse audience can relate to.  Our ideal candidate produces with that audience experience in mind, recognizing there are multiple options across multiple platforms. Producers must be able to multi-task during news gathering hours, sharing content before, during and after a show or digital post. Our ideal candidate can identify engaging content and teach others how to do so.

 

In this role, you will:

 

  • Craft unique shows and segments evoking emotion and utilizing innovative showcasing.
  • Write and edit news stories for on-air broadcasting and digital platforms.
  • Develop content through social listening and independent sources.
  • Skillfully use social media and digital tools to research, discover and distribute content.
  • Use the latest editing and photography tools to tell great stories.
  • Research and teach how to research for facts and credibility.
  • Use consumer analytics in determining content.
  • Enterprise news stories.
  • Use creative production techniques that include music, graphics and new forms of media (User Generated Content, FaceTime & Skype interviews, Tagboard etc.) to enhance stories.
  • Lead and inspire teammatess to work together for a great content experience
  • Coach and inspire on air talent to be exciting and engaging.
  • Perform other tasks as required by the KHOU 11 News Leadership Team.

Job Requirements

  • BA/BS in journalism, communications or related field
  • 3-5 years of experience preferred
  • Experience in editing, and content management systems
  • Understanding the tenets of professional journalism
  • Skills in producing engaging, content-driven shows and digital content
  • Strong social media skills, including an active news hound presence on Twitter, Snapchat, Facebook and Instagram
  • Knowledge of ENPS, Adobe Premiere Pro and Axis graphics a plus
  • Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time pressure deadlines
  • Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events
