Job Description

KARE-11 is looking for a part time entry level Studio Technician. The successful candidate should be ready to engage in live television production and excited to join the market leading news team in the Twin Cities.  KARE-11 has a reputation for outstanding journalism with a professional state of the art presentation that all comes together in the live studio setting.  No formal experience is required but a genuine interest in live television production is required.

Essential Job Functions:

  • This position is ultimately responsible for all studio production elements which include general studio set-up, set preparation, KARE-11 backyard prep, studio camera operations, assisting talent with teleprompter operation including live cueing, operation of studio set lighting, and all general maintenance, cleaning and set-up keeping the studio in order and ready for operation at any time.
  • Complete other varying duties as required with on the job training if needed.

Job Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Understand basic television production methods with excellent communications skills allowing for quick training and a rapid path to solo work on the job
  • Outgoing personality who projects a professional image and likes to work with people including on air talent, show guests, and co-workers.
  • Flexible and able to handle breaking news in high stress deadline driven environment
  • Computer experience needed
  • Able to adjust to varying work schedules to accommodate part time needs.
  • Able to lift 30 pounds without assistance
  • Physical ability to push, pull, stoop, and bend to adjust studio elements as needed.
  • Candidate must have the ability to communicate in English both verbally and in written form.
  • Work with time sensitive events under deadline with pressure to perform with 100% focus to ensure on air success and first-class presentation.
  • Ability to handle critical thinking, make quick smart decisions and remain focused for extended periods of time.

  • Contributes significant results on own initiative, delivering a high standard of quality and pride.
