Job Description

TEGNA Media is looking for a highly skilled and artistic photographer-editor who can create sharable and exciting content for television, social media and mobile.

This person will work primarily with our Special Assignment Unit.

We want a journalist who can tell great stories with a team and on their own. Our ideal candidate is familiar with the latest photography, editing tools and techniques. This person should also be proficient with live news gathering tools and able to participate in live performance on air and online streaming when necessary.

In this role, you will:

  • Use DSLR cameras and Adobe Suite/Premiere editing technology to tell great stories.
  • Use creative production techniques that include, but are not limited to, creating graphics and using new forms of media (viewer pictures, webcam interviews, etc.) to enhance stories.
  • Produce original content on-air, and on all digital and social platforms, that evoke emotion and tell compelling stories in a creative and unique way.
  • Edit and post video and text content stories for digital and social platforms, including attaching images and streaming video.
  • When not working with the Special Assignment Unit, cover breaking, general news, sports, and feature news stories.
  • Attend editorial meetings, participate in discussions, and suggest story telling techniques and ideas.
  • Develop news sources for general assignment and special areas of interest.
  • Operate TVU/Dejero, ENG and satellite trucks.
  • Perform other tasks as required by supervisor or executive producer.

Job Requirements

  • BA/BS in journalism, communications or related field
  • 5-plus years of experience in news, investigative and long-form story telling preferred
  • Experience in photojournalism using DSLRs, editing on Adobe Suite/Premiere and Edius, and content management systems
  • Proven ability to generate creative, engaging, content-driven live shots
  • Demonstrate social media proficiency, especially in the field, including an active news hound presence on Twitter and Facebook
  • Member and active participant in NPPA preferred
  • SNG and TVU/Dejero experience
  • Demonstrated news judgment, writing skills, photography experience, and non-linear editing skills
  • Must be flexible with schedule, reliable and dependable     
  • Understanding of the tenets of professional journalism
  • Knowledge of ENPS, Premiere, Edius and After Effects graphics
  • Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time pressure deadlines
  • Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events
