Job Description

WFAA in Dallas, TX is looking for a great storyteller.  The ideal candidate has a strong reporting background but is also a multi-skilled journalist with the highest standards for both nuanced writing and photojournalism. We want a journalist who can create unique and shareable stories for all platforms through memorable writing, photography and editing. 

  • Establish sources and generate original enterprise stories through social listening and sourcing.     
  • Write in an engaging, captivating and authentic manner.   
  • Deliver developing news in an engaging, accurate, and customized manner based on platform.
  • Utilize strong research skills to uncover big stories.
  • Multi-platform foundation with keen understanding the difference in writing web copy vs. broadcast content.
  • Where applicable, understand how to execute a great story through strong visuals both in photography but also editing  
  • Experience shooting and editing your own story utilizing high end equipment.     
  • Operate news gathering vehicle to and from various locations.  
  • Use creative production techniques such as graphics and new forms of media (viewer pictures, webcam interviews, etc.) to enhance stories.     
  • Transmit and present exciting live reports with current technology.
  • Perform other tasks as required by supervisor or executive producer.

Job Requirements

  • BA/BS in journalism, communications or related field
  • 3-5 years of experience required
  • Bilingual, (English & Spanish) speaking preferred
  • Experience in photojournalism, editing, and content management systems
  • Understanding of the tenants of professional journalism
  • A portfolio with examples of strong breaking news reporting
  • Ability to generate creative, engaging, content-driven live shots
  • Strong social media skills, including an active news hound presence on Twitter and Facebook
  • Knowledge of ENPS, Edius and Axis graphics a plus
  • Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time pressure deadlines
  • Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events
  • Work is performed in various environmental conditions and performed mostly outside in hot or cold temperatures
