Job Description

The Social Discovery Manager will embrace KSDK's standard of news reporting, storytelling, and investigative excellence while boldly advancing the 5 OYS brand across multiple platforms.

The Social Discovery Manager is responsible for identifying and responding to breaking news and socially emerging stories. Is responsible for assigning and dispatching news crews, assisting news crews with contacts and research. Is responsible for connecting with users on social media and keeping ears and eyes open for all great content to be presented on broadcast, mobile and social.  The Social Discovery Manager works with Reporters to disseminate social media strategies and best practices, and to help connect reporters with social media stories. The position also requires monitoring all local news beats and trending digital sources to evaluate and assign coverage for all platforms at KSDK.

Under the leadership of the Digital Director, the Social Discovery Manager is responsible for managing and guiding a team of dedicated assignment editors and will be involved in the social media output of Digital Content Producers.  Work directly with shift producers and content leaders to maximize social and digital tools for on-air and digital product offerings.

Job Requirements

 

  • Covering breaking news events as part of a fast-paced assignment /digital team
  • Monitor traditional and emerging technologies to receive, filter, and share content with the Discovery Desk
  • Work with digital producers to have this content posted on digital platforms.
  • Strong assignment editor/ writing skills
  • Solid news knowledge – preferably of the St. Louis market
  • Working in multiple content management systems
  • Ability to identify potentially viral stories 
  • Ability to work with reporters to develop assigned stories
  • Working under tight deadlines
  • Planning ahead for social, digital and on-air coverage of events
  • Ability to manage content on a variety of platforms including desktop, mobile sites, apps and social media
  • Displays a daily positive outlook related to role, while displaying an affinity for wanting to push and do more
  • Displays a daily positive outlook on working with colleague's and teammates in any way necessary for the betterment of the product
  • Demonstrates daily examples of being a positive influencer and problem solver
