Job Description

TEGNA is looking for a highly organized and creative Social Media Manager with experience growing new brands to join our Central Content Team. This person will help develop and execute the social media strategy for several of TEGNA’s original content verticals including HeartThreads. The Social Media Manager should also understand video production and storytelling, as the verticals are primarily focused on video content.  

This position will be based at WUSA9 in Washington, D.C.

In this role, you will:

  • Manage social media pages for TEGNA content verticals (ex. HeartThreads)
  • Plan and execute social marketing campaigns
  • Edit and approve social video and social media copy
  • Develop new strategies to grow the brand’s social audience and engagement
  • Use data to inform content decisions
  • Track and report social analytics
  • Serve as “brand gatekeeper” for various content verticals

Job Requirements

 Here’s what you need: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism or equivalent experience in the field
  • 3-5 years in social media management or content marketing preferred
  • Strong understanding of various social platforms and their advertising options
  • Experience launching or growing new social media brands
  • Incredible eye for detail
  • Solid editorial and social media judgement
  • Ability to work outside of normal business hours
  • Experience working with local newsroom preferred
