Job Description and Responsibilities:

KHOU is in search of talented college students looking for enriching paid internship opportunities. Come join KHOU a division of TEGNA Inc., a Fortune 500 global digital media company, for our 2018 Summer Intern Program.

Digital InternshipInterns on KHOU digital team will experience the content demands of a news website in Washington, DC.  Interns will learn how to add multimedia content including on-demand/live streaming video, graphics and widgets. They will also learn how to market news across various social media networks (like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat) as well as through the KHOU app and other new technologies as they develop. Interns will work with other news personnel including show producers and reporters to ensure content quality is received. A keen interest in digital storytelling is required. Web coding knowledge and experience with Adobe Photoshop, social media posting, blogging, and/or nonlinear editing is helpful.

  • Primary responsibility will be covering community events by shooting still photos, videos and Facebook lives.
  • May also be asked to write a story about the event.
  • Must be flexible and willing to work some nights and weekends.
  • Produce engaging content for all platforms
  • Use social media and other tools to understand audience’s needs
  • Demonstrate a desire to learn as much as possible about a career in media
  • Assist as needed in the newsroom

Job Requirements

Requirements:

  • Degree-seeking student currently enrolled at a college or university; preference is for juniors with a GPA of 3.0 or higher who will be rising seniors during their internship summer
  • Passion for storytelling
  • Strong writing and social media skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
