Job Description

WOI- Local 5, the TEGNA-owned ABC affiliate in Des Moines, Iowa seeks a talented leader to join our exceptional directing team.  The qualified director is a highly motivated self-learner eager to take on new challenges and add their expertise to productions.


  • Direct live newscasts, recorded productions, live streams, and cut-ins.

    • Determine camera angles, lighting, and set arrangement

    • Ensure effective interaction between the control room and multiple departments across the organization

    • Other assigned duties to include: Editing, Audio, Xpression, Live shot acquisition, and Media Ingest​

Job Requirements


  • Proactive self-learning
  • Effective leadership and communication during a crisis
  • Two (2) years’ experience in various aspects of television production preferred
  • A minimum of three (2) years experience directing
  • Excellent communication skills, with an emphasis on working as a team with producers
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Personal integrity, accountability, problem solving, strong work ethic
  • Ability to work late evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable working on ladders
