Job Description

Summary

The ideal candidate will have a passion for true crime podcasts with proven experience writing and editing scripts for an audio-only environment. As a key member of the podcast editorial team, you will collaborate with TEGNA newsrooms to develop full-season podcasts for distribution across multiple platforms. You must be able to conceptualize and write multi-episode scripts under tight deadlines while continuing to research and develop new ideas.  We are looking for a creative writer and thinker with strong journalistic judgment. Ability to host podcasts and edit/mix audio is a plus. 

Responsibilities

  • Research cases and gather extensive background material from across TEGNA stations and markets for potential podcast development 
  • Research stories and scripts for facts and credibility
  • Create comprehensive pitch materials and write episode outlines for potential development
  • Research, write and edit scripts for podcast episodes
  • Conduct audio interviews with various case sources, internal and external
  • Collaborate with on-air talent across TEGNA stations to identify potential stories for podcasts and conduct interviews as needed
  • Manage and update multiple social media accounts
  • Maintain ongoing social media presence and engage regularly with VAULT audience 
  • Preferred: Edit and mix audio as needed, experience with recording/audio equipment, and remote interviewing skills; Ability to host and perform on-air role as needed

PLEASE NOTE:  This position does not require working out of TEGNA'S Virginia headquarters.  However, your remote work location will require a strong/stable internet connection.
