Job Description

The VP of Distribution will serve as TEGNA’s lead negotiator in developing and executing content distribution strategies across traditional, digital, and MVPD platforms, including complex retransmission consent and network affiliation agreements. The VP of Distribution is responsible for hitting the distribution revenue goals established by the company, managing existing partnerships, and developing new partnerships.  This person will demonstrate expertise on all broadcast and digital platforms and represent TEGNA’s strategy externally and internally. In addition, the leader will need to have an extensive knowledge base of the various distribution channels and associated rights issues to create a comprehensive approach that balances the multiple stakeholders in this dynamic environment. This position will be based in Tysons, VA or New York, NY.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead development, negotiations, and implementation strategies to increase distribution of TEGNA’s content and digital services
  • Provide advice and guidance to executives regarding content distribution
  • Responsible for growing distribution revenue through existing partnerships and new business development
  • In partnership with TEGNA’s Legal Team, draft and negotiate company’s content distribution and retransmission deals with cable providers
  • Work closely with distribution partners to drive TEGNA interests during and outside of renewals
  • Maintain strong relationships with all distributors, technology companies and vendors by maintaining a deep understanding of their business to maximize TEGNA’s value
  • Serve as a key representative for various internal groups, by providing marketplace updates, distribution updates, and serving as a source of strategic guidance
  • Communicate current marketplace information on industry trends for competitive products including: business models, deal terms and strategic partnerships / marketing
  • Work on special projects and presentations for executive management

Job Requirements

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience, with increasing levels of responsibility, negotiating transactions in the media / entertainment field
  • Undergraduate degree; MBA / JD preferred
  • Strong knowledge of television industry agreements, contract law and intellectual property rights
  • Experience leading the strategy, structure and negotiation of deals, as well as drafting agreements once terms are negotiated
  • Proven track record of relationship management and year over year revenue growth with existing partners
  • Excellent sales presentation skills; ability, energy, and commitment to drive new revenue
  • Strategic thinker, extremely organized and disciplined, with flexibility to be a tactical executor under tight time constraints
  • Proven ability to pivot quickly, think practically and be solution-oriented
  • Creative, business-friendly approach to problem solving and the ability to provide high quality support in a fast-paced environment
  • Impeccable communication skills; team player with ability to proactively collaborate with cross-functional partners, provide guidance and make strategic recommendations in deal-making
