About Us

WHAS11 is woven into the very fabric of Louisville and Kentuckiana, dating back to our first broadcast in March of 1950. The station was a trailblazer, being the area’s first to use newsreel film and the first to bring the nation a live television broadcast, the iconic Kentucky Derby. Built on journalistic excellence and a commitment to improve the communities we serve, WHAS11-On Your Side is proud to be Kentuckiana’s first choice for news on-air, on-line, and mobile, quality local programming, and community involvement. We stand up for Kentuckiana by holding people in positions of power accountable to get things done and keep their promises. We celebrate what’s great about our communities, the people, our love of family and heritage, our sports teams, and of course our unique Kentucky “spirits” and great food.

In 1954, the WHAS Crusade for Children began a yearly tradition of raising money to help the area’s remarkable children. Over the course of its rich history, the nationally-recognized foundation has raised hundreds of millions of dollars for special needs children throughout Kentuckiana.

In 2015, Gannett spun its publishing properties from its broadcast and digital properties, making WHAS11 part of TEGNA Media, one of the largest, most geographically diverse broadcasters in the U.S.

The WHAS11-On Your Side team has won numerous local and national awards for reporting and community service including countless regional Emmy and Edward R. Murrow awards.
