We are seeking a Mid-Level Civil/Structural Designer to provide support on various industrial projects in Salt Lake City and the Intermountain West.  Experience in the heavy industrial industry, preferably mining or oil and gas sectors preferred.  Responsibilities include design support on “Brownfield” steel, concrete and foundation design projects, building design, field inspection and field measurement, as well as the preparation of civil site layouts, grading plans and topographic drawings.  A Degree from an Accredited Technical School is preferred.  Candidate must be highly motivated; customer focused and work well in a team environment.  Candidate should also have the ability to manage a heavy workload, travel locally for short periods of time and be on-call as needed.  Candidate should be able to direct younger draftsmen for drawing updates and redlines.  Excellent written and verbal communication, client interaction and organizational skills, as well as proficiency with MS Office applications required.  Proficiency with AutoCAD a requirement, along with a working knowledge of 3-D design software.  A level of proficiency with Civil3D, Revit, CADWorx or other 3-D modeling software a plus.

  • Responsible for the engineering design support of small to large heavy industrial projects (Oil, Gas, Mining, Energy, Petrochemical, Material Handling, etc.).
  • Will be supervised by upper level engineering staff and/or project managers with the ability to direct designers and drafting staff (Mid-Level Candidates).
  • The ability to be a self-starter requiring direction, but minimal supervision, although this is dependent on experience.
  • The Candidate will be capable of committing to and maintaining to a project timeline.
  • The ability to document and track project tasks and related design documents is required (strong organizational skills). 


Job Requirements

  • Degree in Drafting from an Accredited Technical Institution requested.  Advanced technical training a plus.
  • Candidate should have a minimum of three (3) years of design experience, although a minimum of five (5) years preferred, in an Industrial engineering setting either as a direct employee, or through a consulting firm.
  • Prefer a Candidate with heavy industrial site design experience and knowledge of process plants, steel structures, concrete structures, and foundations.  Experience in other Civil areas; storm water, site work, road design, building design, water collection/distribution, tank design, retention basins, as well as design experience in other disciplines a plus.
  • Ability to read/interpret specifications and drawings is required.
  • Good interpersonal and customer relations skills are essential. Must be a self-starter and have ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and have the ability to manage multiple projects/tasks.
  • Must be proficient in the use of CAD systems and have PC proficiency using MS office.
  • Candidate should have a sufficient knowledge of applicable codes used for design including; IBC, ACI 318, AISC and ASCE 7/SEI 7, to name a few.
  • Knowledge of Structural Steel and Concrete Rebar detailing a plus.
