Tetra Tech is seeking an Emergency Management Planner/Responder - Jr. Level to work in our Chicago, IL office.
 
The selected candidate will primarily be responsible for supporting the development of local, state and regional emergency response and recovery plans, as well as HSEEP compliant training and exercise programs. Activities may include hazard identification and risk assessment, research of best management practices, exercise design and control, after action reporting, supporting stakeholder meetings, drafting of plans and procedures, collecting and analyzing data, and response plan development to describe concepts of operations, mutual aid, regional coordination, emergency public information, resource management and logistics.

Opportunities exist to also provide support on a variety of environmental projects, including emergency and disaster response, with occasional significant travel and on-call support.  This work may include multi-media sampling, field audits and inspections, organizing and reviewing data, preparing reports, file reviews, collection of air monitoring data, training and exercise support, contractor oversight, and related services.

Job Requirements

1-5 years experience in emergency management or public safety. Previous consulting or emergency/disaster response experience is desirable. Travel, work in client offices, oral presentations, and written report preparation will be required. Candidate will manage project schedules and budgets and will interface directly with clients. Certified Emergency Manager and/or Master Exercise Practitioner credentials are preferred. DHS Homeland Security Exercise Evaluation Program (HSEEP) training is required. Must have the ability to work in an unsupervised environment.
 
Must be highly motivated, customer focused and work well in a team environment. Must be able to be a self-starter and solutions-orientated worker. Excellent communication (both written and verbal) skills, as well as proficiency with MS Office applications are required. GIS data analysis and geostatistics, coding (VBA, Python, etc.), or data management skills are desirable. Must be able to drive a motor vehicle and pass a motor vehicle records check.
 
BS/MS in Public Administration, Emergency Management, Communications, Political Science or related discipline. 40-hour OSHA, ICS or related training, or demonstrated first responder (environmental emergency response) experience a plus.
 
Occasional heavy lifting of field sampling and other equipment may be required. Candidate must also meet physical demands of on-site field work.  Travel is required and varies based on project requirements; may include some weekend travel and work. Candidate may be exposed to various weather conditions while performing field work outside.
