Tetra Tech is currently seeking 10 part-time (35-38 hours per week) Field Data Collection/Supervisors to work on our project supporting the City of LA’s sustainability initiative to reduce and recycle food waste.  We are seeking ten organized, enthusiastic, team-oriented individuals to join our implementation team and help City residents to keep food out of the landfill and promote a healthier, more sustainable Los Angeles.

Project dates and schedule:
Project will run from April 8th – May 31st with mandatory training to be held on April 8th or 9th.
From April 10th – May 3rd shifts will be in the morning starting at 6:00 am Monday – Friday.
From May 6th – May 31st shifts will be in the afternoon and evenings Monday – Thursday and a full day on Saturday, plus up to six hours of data assimilation/preparation time on Friday, as needed.

$20 per hour for the first four weeks of the project (Field Data Collection Phase).
$24 per hour for the last four weeks of the project (Supervisory Phase).

The data collection phase of this project will include performing a visual assessment of green-bin and black-bins at up to 150 homes per day.  You will also deliver informational materials to the residents of these homes.
The supervisor phase of this project will oversee teams of 2-4 employees for the tasks described below (and will complete tasks as well alongside team members) going door to door.

  • Engage residents and convey program information for food scraps collection pilot.
  • Deliver kitchen pails and “How-to Brochure” to each pilot home and track progress electronically using a tablet.
  • Conduct a survey with pre-selected resident and accurately record responses using a tablet. 


Job Requirements

Job Requirements
  • Ability to walk for multiple hours and work outdoors in variable weather conditions as well as lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Work independently and with a team exercise flexibility, good judgment and discretion.  Be an outgoing and positive communicator.
  • Ability to operate a tablet as well as having access to a cell phone to use for duration of the project.
  • Must have a valid CA driver licenses and pass a DMV check.
  • Ability to provide your own transportation to work sites throughout Los Angeles.

Preferred but not required
  • Outreach/canvassing experience
  • Supervisor experience
  • Experience specific to waste reduction and recycling
  • Fluency in English, bilingualism (English/Spanish), other languages spoken also desirable
