WASHPaLS is recruiting for a two-year, full-time WASH Specialist to join the project’s core technical team to provide expert technical and communication support.
About WASHPaLs
The Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Partnerships and Learning for Sustainability (WASHPaLS) project is a five-year (October 2016 – September 2021) centrally funded activity of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Global Health Bureau, implemented by Tetra Tech and partners. WASHPaLS activities include implementation research on several themes associated with rural sanitation, a grants mechanism for implementing and testing innovative approaches to hygiene behavior change, and a technical assistance window through which USAID operating units can, via buy-ins, request technical services. WASHPaLS is conducting research in three technical areas: Community-led Total Sanitation (CLTS), Market-Based Sanitation (MBS) and Safe Place Spaces (SPS) for Infants and Young Children; the core research workstreams consist of two sequential phases: an initial desk review, which have been completed for all research streams, to identify current gaps in the evidence base, followed by field-based implementation research that seeks to fill some of the identified gaps. Please visit www.globalwaters.org/WASHPaLS for additional information.
This position will be based in Arlington, VA, but consideration will be given to working from a remote location.
Responsibilities:
•         Produce technical reports and communications products tailored for a variety of policy-oriented audiences;
•         Support engagement efforts to promote WASHPaLS technical outputs;
•         Manage and participate in short-term technical assignments requested by USAID; and,
•         Support project management and client relations.

Job Requirements

•         Minimum of 8 years of experience providing technical/advisory services and/or designing and participating in research on international WASH issues;
•         At least four years working in a developing country participating in or managing project or research study implementation in the WASH sector preferred;
•         Technical expertise as demonstrated by academic or grey literature publications in at least one WASH technical area (e.g., hygiene behavior change, CLTS, Market Based Sanitation, etc.)
•         Experience working on USAID-funded WASH projects preferred;
•         French proficiency preferred; and
•         Demonstrate strong communication, writing and interpersonal skills and ability to operate independently and effectively as part of a largely virtual and multinational team.

* A writing sample of a technical nature no more than 10 pages in length in which the applicant is the sole author
