Position Overview:

Under general supervision, oversees, provides leadership, and participates in the overall management of a key, specialized aspect of central accounting or major subset of a broader accounting function.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions**):

  • Oversees the approval and processing of revenue, expenditure, and other key financial control documents, ledger and/or account maintenance, and relevant data entry; ensures compliance with state, and federal policies and regulations, while maintaining appropriate internal control safeguards.
  • Prepares financial statements and various fiscal and/or budget reports, as appropriate to area of accounting specialty, to include projections, analysis, and conclusions.
  • Provides technical guidance and expertise to subordinates and client management and/or technical staff in the day-to-day management of accounting activities within area of specialty.
  • As appropriate to the position, participates in the development of operating goals and objectives for the organization; recommends, implements, and administers methods and procedures to enhance operations.
  • Assists in the annual budget planning process and regularly monitors expenditures.
  • Responds to inquiries and researches and resolves problems related to transactions handled by the finance department; serves as liaison with other constituencies in the resolution of day-to-day administrative and operational issues.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Knowledge of: Principles and practices, terminology and forms used in bookkeeping and accounting work.
  • Modern office methods, practices and procedures.
  • Data/word processing operations related to the maintenance of fiscal records, and various spreadsheets, correspondence and reports.
  • Basic cost control and auditing procedures and practices.
  • Principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation.
  • Communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management.
  • Ability to develop, plan and implement short and long range goals.
  • Ability to prepare financial reports.
  • Knowledge of business practices and procedures.

Education & Experience:

  • Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a closely related field.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting of Finance preferred.
    • 5+ years of accounting experience.
    • 3+ years of supervisory experience.
    • Advance proficiency with MS Office programs, especially Excel.

    • Work is performed in an office environment and in close proximity to other workers. Incumbent shall be exposed to those conditions normally encountered in a business office environment.
