Position Overview:

Responsible for and/or lead and assign work to other technicians. Perform quality control inspection prior to delivering vehicle to customer. Responsible for repairing and overhauling product. Work involves ability to follow directions and work with limited supervision. Valid Class “B” driver's license and acceptable driving record a must.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

  • Leads, plans, trains, and reviews the work of technicians responsible for performing a variety of skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled technical diagnostic, repair and maintenance work on a variety of vehicles, trucks and other heavy power-driven equipment.
  • Trains assigned employees in maintenance and repair methods, procedures, and techniques; leads, assigns and inspects the work of subordinates and participates in all associated work; verifies work performed for accuracy, proper work methods, techniques, and compliance with applicable standards and specifications; ensures adherence to safe work practices and procedures; assists in the evaluation of employees.
  • Keep track of job status and update foreman on completion dates and issues that may arise.
  • Perform quality control inspections.
  • Accesses technical information from automated databases; enters data into and retrieves, prints, generates vehicle, equipment, and repair order reports from the system.
  • Supplies own tools.
  • Requires repeated bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, and lifting up to 70 lbs.
  • Some shift work may be required.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of the job.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Must be organized, able to read, write and understand service instructions.
  • Knowledge of practice, techniques, materials, tools and equipment used in the diagnosis, repair, preventative maintenance, and modification of a wide variety of technical equipment, including trucks, heavy equipment, specialized vehicles.
  • Knowledge of basic office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and supporting software applications.
  • Ability to lead, train and evaluate subordinate staff.
  • Ability to perform preventative maintenance and replacement functions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Must hold valid Driver’s License.
  • Must pass drug screening tests as mandated by Department of Transportation agency regulations.

Education & Experience:

  • 6+ years in diesel and heavy engine experience required.
  • Systems certified required.
  • Strong technical/mechanical skills and experience required; product knowledge essential.
  • Technical/mechanical training.

Tool Requirements:

  • Have a complete set of hand tools.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to communicate with customers and must be able to exchange accurate information. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing. The employee must be able to lift and/or move items up to 70 pounds. Must be able to detect parts and machinery from a distance and up close.
