Job Description

Position Overview:

Journeyperson (6+ years of experienced and training) next transition from Technician I. Journeyperson will be responsible for repairing and overhauling product.  Under general supervision, performs trouble shooting and repairs on cooling, electronic, air systems, engine, transmission, clutch, steering, brakes and wheel end.  Must have a general knowledge of brakes and brake components, tire mount, dismount and repair as well as perform general maintenance and service. Will be expected to document all and any work / repairs performed.  Must be able to take direction as well as maintain a positive attitude under pressure.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

  • Troubleshoot, repair and overhaul product
  • Supplies own tools
  • Perform skilled repairs within required times and to desired accuracy
  • Document activities including cause of failure and repairs or service work performed
  • Some shift work may be required
  • Maintain immediate work area clean and free from debris
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of the job
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Strong technical/mechanical skills and experience required; product knowledge essential
  • Must be organized
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Must be able to read, write and understand service instructions
  • Fundamental knowledge of all mechanical and electronic systems concerning Diesel powered engines
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the repair and diagnosis
  • Experience and understanding of tooling equipment, tooling processes, and industrial trends
  • Product knowledge and experience understanding technical issues and ability to apply previous technical experience to solve technical problems
  • Must have Class 1 driver's license and clean driving history

Education & Experience:

  • 6+ years of experience with diagnostic and repair of diesel engines
  • Certified Associate in Applied Sciences or equivalent technical training in Diesel Technology
  • Strong technical/mechanical skills and experience required
  • Computer skills including email, maintenance programs, and diagnostic systems

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to communicate with customers and must be able to exchange accurate information. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items up to 70 pounds. Must be able to detect parts and machinery from a distance and up close.

Tool Requirements:

  • Have a complete set of hand tools

Working Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
