Job Description

Summary: Wausau Supply Company Color Lab Technician is responsible for the monitoring of product in manufacturing including color evaluation and moisture techniques for the entire production process while ensuring efficiency throughout the line.    It is the responsibility of the Color Lab Technician to be aware of all production goals and anticipate problems that could impact long term goals, including quality control and establishing high standards of workmanship.  In order to be an effective as the Color Lab Technician, individual must be fluent with communication and it is imperative that positive relations with all internal levels of the organization remain uncompromised. 

Duties to include, (but not limited to):

•        Assisting supervisors in the day to day operation related to color, raw materials and daily production schedules (includes shift change or overlaps)

•        Monitor processes, materials or surroundings – monitoring and reviewing information from materials or events to ensure uncompromised quality controls and assess problems

•        Serves as a communication resource to production line team members and supervisors, providing knowledge and experience

•        Interacts with computer software while implementing custom color matches and maintaining the integrity of plotting/saving color data and equally responsible for internal filing system

•        Ensures accuracy of chemical mix and prepared color solutions

•        Oversee/execute both production and lab quality control checks

•        Assist Quality Control Supervisor in driving continues improvement with the Business unit

•        Analyze Quality issues to determine root causation

•        Actively participates in proper safety procedures, processes and complies with company protocols and policies

•        Encourages team effort and supportive attitudes

Job Requirements

 Color Lab Technician Demonstrates:

•        Ability to communicate effectively through oral and written communications

•        Ability to analyze, solve problems and critically think

•        Self-motivated with strong organizational skills

•        Ability to use basic hand tools

•        Basic experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)


Education / Experience:

•        High school diploma and 5 year related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

•        Background in lab environments, standards & best practices

•        Experience with Continues Improvement systems/processes

•        Lean manufacturing background/experience

•        Experience in color measurement and management preferred Working Demands / Physical Requirements:

•        Ability to lift up to 75 pounds

•        Good color vision and manual dexterity

•        Ability to stand/bend/walk for long periods of time


Reports to:  Production Manager/Quality Control Supervisor Conclusion:  The Color Lab Technician will exemplify the high standards that have come to be associated with WSC. As an ESOP owner, acting with honor, integrity, and positivity is imperative.  The Color Lab Technician’s prime objective is to oversee the color quality of our product and to ensure quality standards remain uncompromised.
