Position Summary

The HR Generalist/Supervisor is responsible for corporate or mine site HR functions. Performs full cycle HR functions such as onboarding, training and development, employee relations, recruiting and retention, succession planning and offboarding.

 

Supervisor Responsibilities

This position may have formal supervisory responsibilities over other employees.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages the onboarding process to include pre-employment screenings, equipment and cubicle set up, new hire orientation and collection of applicable HR paperwork. 
  • Provides guidance to management on promotions, demotions and terminations. 
  • Completes applicable paperwork and performs data entry of employee changes (i.e. new hires, transfers, promotions, terminations etc.) in the HRIS system. Ensures that appropriate departments are notified. 
  • Completes exit interviews and maintains the results for management review. 
  • Provides support to employees and management on employee relations matters and develops resolutions per HR department policies and procedures. 
  • Administers Westmoreland’s performance management plan. Provides guidance to management on performance management procedures. Maintains performance data for promotions and merit increases. 
  • Partners with management to assess department training and development needs. 
  • Maintains process flows and documentation for SOX compliance. 
  • Assists director of HR in implementation of HR initiatives such as succession planning, performance management, talent management and implementation of new systems. 
  • Maintains employee records in paper files and/or electronically. 
  • Perform related work as required.

Job Requirements

Typical Physical Demands

Requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping and stretching. Requires constant data input for extended periods of time without leaving the work area. Occasionally lifting files or paper weighing up to 30 pounds. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports. Requires mobility sufficient to travel.

Typical Working Conditions

Normal office environment. Occasional evening or weekend work.

 

Licenses, Registration, and Certifications

  • None.

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of related work experience.
  • Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
