Job Description

Under the general direction of the Engineering Manager, the Mining Engineer will prepare mine plans and engineering designs. Perform monthly evaluations of productivity and economics of mine areas. Design haul roads, ramps, pond drainages, and development works. Evaluate purchase and use of mining equipment and mining methods.  Plan and conduct work that requires judgment for independent evaluation, selection, and adaptation/modification of standard techniques and procedures. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Developing economic pit designs through use of whittle
  • Writing Licensee Applications
  • Creating development plans for new mining areas
  • Completing equipment efficiency studies
  • Writing AFE's
  • Ensure that permits and conditions are met
  • Manage small projects

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering
  • Registration with APEGA as P. Eng.
  • The ideal candidate will have 5 - 7 years experience
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Autodesk Map, Gemcom, Whittle
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including MS Project
  • Ability to work independently, adjust to changing priorities and to handle different and multiple tasks
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Good presentation skills


Knowledge of surface coal mining methods, operating procedures and economics is preferred.  Must have knowledge of engineering requirements of permit applications and appropriate provincial and federal laws/regulations.

The successful candidate will be able to work in a team atmosphere, both as a team leader and a team member; have strong analytical and evaluative problem solving skills; be able to prepare, monitor, and maintain project schedules; and effectively communicate with contemporaries, professionals in other departments, consultants/contractors, and management.
