Job Description

Reclamation/Dam Engineer

Under the general direction of the Engineering Manager, the Mining Engineer will be in charge of developing the reclamation plans for the coal Valley Mine site.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop detailed reclamation designs in accordance with regulatory approvals
  • Develop soil balance plans to optimize efficiency and meet regulatory requirements
  • Calculate the Mine site's Asset Retirement obligation annually
  • Maintain tracking on reclamation areas
  • Manage the dam program
  • Manage small environmental projects




Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mining, Civil or Environmental Engineering
  • Registration with APEGA as P. Eng.
  • The ideal candidate will have 5 - 7 years experience
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Autodesk Map, Civil 3D
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including MS Project
  • Ability to work independently, adjust to changing priorities and handle different and multiple tasks
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Good presentation skills

Knowledge of surface coal mining methods, operating procedures and economics is preferred.  Must have knowledge of engineering requirements of permit applications and appropriate provincial and federal laws/regulation.

The successful candidate will be able to work in a team atmosphere, both as a team leader and a team member; have strong analytical and evaluative problem solving skills; be able to prepare, monitor, and maintain project schedules; and effectively communicate with contemporaries, professionals in other departments, consultants/contractors, and management.
