Job Description

 Position Summary

Under direct supervision, the benefits specialist is responsible for assisting with the administration of all benefits and retirement programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, and 401(k) plan for the US and CA. Ability to utilize judgement and discretion to perform a substantial amount of research, data analysis, reporting, and billing with a knowledge of excel and process documentation.

Supervisor Responsibilities

This position does not have formal supervisory responsibilities over other employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Performs quality checks of benefits-related data and assist employees regarding benefit claims issues and plan changes.
  • Ensures all benefit enrollments and information are accurate in JDE prior to providing vendors with all benefit changes on a re-occuring basis.
  • Responds to benefits inquiries from managers and employees on plan provisions, benefits enrollments, status changes and other general inquiries.
  • Assist with leave-of-absence requests and disability paperwork: medical, personal, disability and FMLA.
  • Respond to 401(k) inquiries from managers and employees relating to enrollments, plan changes and contribution amounts.
  • Provides necessary reports for allocation/billing charges to support all benefits and retirement programs.
  • Assists with the open enrollment process.
  • Perform related work as required.

 

Job Requirements

Typical Physical Demands

Requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping and stretching. Requires constant data input for extended periods of time without leaving the work area. Occasionally lifting files or paper weighing up to 30 pounds. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports. Requires mobility sufficient to travel.

Typical Working Conditions

Normal office environment. Occasional evening or weekend work.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Human Resources, public or business administration, or related field.
  • Minimum 1 years of related work experience.
  • Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
