GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Internal Control Specialist reports to the Internal Audit Director and is responsible for contributing to the co-sourced SOX compliance effort that may include:

 

  • Developing internal controls over financial reporting
  • Creating and maintaining process flows, risk assessments, and risk and control matrices
  • Performing tests of design and operating effectiveness and assisting in remediation and deficiency evaluation
  • Presenting routine status updates to Management, IA, and external auditors
  • Coordinating SOX compliance efforts between IA, external auditors, and control owners
  • Performing SOX walkthroughs and testing under the external auditor direct assist/reliance model
  • Leading SOX training for control owners
  • Assisting in developing presentations for Sr. Management and the Board of Directors

Job Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, or related field
  • 2+ years’ work experience in public accounting, SOX consulting, or internal audit for a public company
  • Working knowledge of the Sarbanes Oxley Act and capable of leading walkthroughs and SOX 404 testing
  • CIA, CPA, CISA desirable
  • Most importantly we want Internal Auditors to demonstrate leadership every day, constantly learn, apply business acumen, and seek out ways to contribute to the organization.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Comfortable leading process mapping, brainstorming, project status discussions to team members of all levels

PHYSICAL AND WORK ENVIRONMENT DEMANDS

Work in a safe manner always and be aware of environmental responsibilities both in an office and in a mining or industrial setting. This is sedentary work which requires the following physical activities: bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, sitting, walking, finger dexterity, feeling, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity.

Ability to lift minimum of 10 pounds to a maximum of 20 pounds unassisted; able to perform repetitive standing, sitting, stooping, walking, stretching, reaching, lifting, and use full range of body motions.
